Win98 Usb Cd Drive?

Hi! I have a Win98 computer with a broken CD-ROM drive and want to connect a USB CD-RW drive to it. Now, the drive does not write properly, but read-only is good enough for the purpose. Also, the Win98 computer has only two USB ports; one is always used, and the other is required for other purposes. So, I need to be able to disconnect the drive at any time. What files do I need to do the job?

 

When I was using, Win98SE not so long ago. I used this driver and it correctly detected any / all USB devices that I connected.

It will even put an eject icon in the systray

Okay. I think I have the drivers I need. How about making the drive available under DOS?

I am not entirely sure since I never specifically used a USB optical drive on 98SE in dos.

Clearly there would be two requirements 1. That your hardware supports it and 2. whether 98 or 98SE can actually see USB in dos.

I guess the only way to find out is to boot to dos and try to locate the USB drive.

Failing that and if no other member(s) on this forum has any ideas, I would suggest posting in the 98SE section of the MSFN forum where there are a lot of enthusiasts who are still running that o/s (Hope it's ok to suggest using another forum..)

I Googled and found a USB driver for DOS. Thank you for your help.
