You will need to upgrade your motherboard in order to use the 2.0 functionality.

Though, typically, you MAY be able to use the software anyay. This is a 50/50 chance though, the transfer rate is quite slow.

Windows 9x doesn't officially support USB 2.0 (or XP without SP1), so you must provide the drivers for the hardware.

Officially doesn't mean it doesn't work, but you must install the drivers for your motherboard or PCI USB card or whatever it is.

Yes you can but only with USB1.0 transfer speeds

Absolute rubbish and very misleading. Please don't dash peoples hopes!

USB 2.0 works fine on Windows 9x. (only NT has problems)

Microsoft supports some USB chips on it's update site, but that's not a good idea.

If it's a USB 2.0 PCI card, they come with Windows 9x drivers. (funny about that if you think it doesn't work  )

If not, check the card manufacturers' site. (good idea to check anyway for latest version)

If it's USB 2.0 built-in to the motherboard, your motherboard/chipset drivers should sort it out.

Again, it's usually better to get the latest versions via their website.

Just to clarify, as my previous response were in reply to some to the "answers".

You can't via software update to USB 2.0 if your hardware doesn't have it.

You must have the hardware to begin with, then have the correct drivers.

If your hardware doesn't support it, then no you can't regardless of your operating system.

  7. Heres an easy fix for 30 bucks you get yourself a PCI card with usb 2.0, like insomniac stated and you can get them with like up to 4 ports on them and you get the 2.0 speed. I Know insomniac has already said that but if the motherboard doesnt have2.0 I think that is your best bet.
