Winamp question

Hello all...testing Winamp to see if I like it... still haven't found a music player I really like...
two probs with Winamp and I hope you folks can help with one of them...

first.. back in my younger, dumber days I ripped many a CD with WMP so they are in the WMA format.. Winamp cannot read the id3 tag (Media Jukebox 8 can so I do not buy the Winamp support line that it is licensing) I can re-rip the CD's but I don't want to...

second (and hopefully ya'll can help)
one feature of other players that I really like is random playlist creation...
ie: I pick a genre of music and the player randomly picks the music to play in a new a different order each time.

I found the Auto DJ feature, but I don't want to have to re-do it each time....

any thoughts or any way I can do this or ideas....

 

I can't help you with re-rippin the cds. I only use Winamp3 and I loved it ever since I installed it. Winamp does have a random playlist feature. Find...Thinger>Preferences>Playlist it's in there. I create one large music library then set the playlist to random so I don't get used to hearing the songs in the same order all of the time. You can also select how random Winamp picks the music. Mine is currently set at 33%, but you can increase, or decrease, it as necessary depending on your taste. I am not sure about selecting a genre of music unless you want create a different folder for each genre, create a playlist inside that folder, then tell Winamp to pull from that folder. Hmmm, not sure if I really helped or not, but I hope so. There are others here that use Winamp more than I do, so then will be able help if I didn't.

 

you can play wmp files in winamp... im sure of it...
winamp 2.x or 3?
there is a plugin for 2.x to do it, but i thought that 3 had it as default..

I can play them no prob.... but winamp won't read the ID3 tags
