    Hello,
I used to use Winamp but have recently uninstalled it. I then had Windows Media Player associate with all files (.mp3, .avi, etc.). However when I double click some .mp3 files, they don't open. I then right click on them, and the first option is play in Winamp. So I have to go down to play with media player. Why is Winamp still controlling file associations, when I have uninstalled it?

You have to change the associations themselves. Fortunately, WMP will do this for you, but be careful. It will grab all associations if you let it, many people have other programs for other jobs that you may not want changed. Just go down the list and click what you want WMP to do.

I have done that, I choose to associate all file types. And it still didn't help.
