That's a good reference but it explains a situation where Vista was already installed on C and, of course, it is left there and XP is installed on another partition.

But, Vista is on C, right? So, you'll need to install XP on another partition. See the reference Earthling posted.

Yeah, I did assume - probably wrongly - that the OP wanted a dual boot, but maybe he does just want XP instead of .....:confused

I followed the directions, set up the new drive and booted off of my XP disk then got the message the setup can not access disk and then Page_fault_in_nonpage_area

If there are files on the drive that you want to keep, transfer them to CD or a thumbdrive.
If the machine is a desktop, remove the drive and install as a slave in a second machine. Then Disk Management can remove EVERYTHING from the partition, then format.
Once formatted, reinstall into its proper machine and run with it.

Ok I got Xp loaded using another disc. All works fine but it will not connect to my server say it was not sent an IP. Is there a way to force the IP address to it for the first connect and then see if the dynamic IP will send later/

Assuming your network adapter is working normally - (check in Device Manager) - open its Properties, click Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and click Properties, and set an IP address and DNS addresses there. If the adapter is not working normally you need to install or update its driver.

Device manager says all is working great. I don't have an Internet Protocol option. All the other computers on the router work fine and this one did before I Installed XP. I can't dual boot because I can't get the software since I can't access the Internet.

Download on another machine and save to CD or thumbdrive.
Then install on the problem machine.

Just to be clear, you will need to provide your own IP and DNS addresses as appropriate to your router and service provider. The ones I use won't work for you.

Did that and all worked fine. I reboot and got the page with the boot options of either vista or Xp. I chose Vista and then got a blank screen and that was all? Next?

Good, so XP is now OK and connecting? The Vista non-appearance threatens to be more of a problem though :(

How about posting a pic of your partitions? Boot XP > Start > Run > diskmgmt.msc. Post a pic of the whole Disk Management window.

Will do when I get a break, actually the only reason I was trying to boot to Vista was to see if my Internet would still worked there where it won't with XP. I am going to try a different card first to see if that will work.

aaah, now you've lost me. When you said 'all worked fine' I assumed you meant XP was connecting with a fixed IP address. So what did you mean?

XP boots and runs fine but I do not have an Internet connection, so I was trying to boot up in Vista to see the Internet connection showed up there still as it did before loading XP if not I will change out the card. In XP device manage says the card works fine so I was going to check to see if anything different in Vista.

OK, but it might be helpful if you ran ipconfig /all in XP and posted the output.
