Windows 10 And Windows 7 On Same Workgroup, One Ok, The Other Not Shown

    I have run Win7 workgroup on two home PCs for decades. I've avoided Win10 but some software now needs it. Workgroup is available in Win10. On thew network there should be a node for
    the sending machine and receiving on both PCs. It's only half working. I can send one way. It's the old permissions denied error-- something I just either forgot or is new to WIN10. I've done all the lookup I can but one problem is possibly having to delete a workgroup which I cannot manage.

    I can't see a way to look at properties of workgroup symbols-- rt click etc to compare what is working
    and what isn't.

    The only significant change in home networking between Win 7 and Win 10 was MS abandoned Homegroup, all the underlying "DIY" settings remained the same. So not a good idea to start changing any of your settings on the Win 7 system as the problem is with the Win 10 settings. Can you confirm the Win 7 system can see the Win 10 system in Network, and if so what happens if you try to open it?

    I get the error about permission denied, check your spelling etc. With these questions I have to go reinstall the HD with the Win10 in it. It's an 'extra' for just mainly one program. It's not built out for full daily use.

    The unusual thing is the WIN10 icon shows up. But if opened, it's totally empty. In other words, no symbol inside to user or public folders.

    I made two screen shots of the ipconfig of each system which may be helpful.

    here they are in imgbb... posting public might be a problem...

    PC called MSI760 on the homenet is here:

    and the node called WIN10 is here:

    If there's a setting problem, it's most likely in the Win10.

    and I have Updates turned off. However last startup, updates came back like magic
    in Services.

    here's what I see: PC with Win10 shows MSI760 node working. It also shows Win10 node symbol but it is empty --no network symbol showing inside with the usual default and public options to send a file there.

    From MSI760, The node for MSI760 is also ok, WIN10 same: empty.

    So I can write both ways using the ethernet space of MSI760.

    Something is different in the WIN10 that cannot see workgroup made in WIN10. That is the best description I can give.

    I never used Homegroup.

    That all looks ok, as far as it goes but you won't see anything in the Win 10 until you share something. You obviously had some shares set up in the Win 7 system - you now need to do the same in Win 10. The sharing process hasn't changed at all.

    Here is a solution (?) for MS describing the exact problem which is the empty workgroup content:

    Aside from the usual advanced settings instructions on password and so on,
    a Register change is given at the end.

    Here is the whole instruction link:

    https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us...k-folder/3b49c1e6-925f-49d1-bf2a-8aaac478c425

    and here is the RegEdit. I'm very cautious about doing Registry Edits and have no
    experience in doing it. Besides If I have to reinstall, I may forget it over time.

    1. Press the Windows + Q keys, type CMD;

    2. Right-click on CMD and choose Run as Administrator;

    3. Paste the command below and press Enter:

    REG ADD"HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa" /V LimitBlankPasswordUse /T REG_DWORD /D 0 /F

    4. Restart the system.

    I reprinted the whole message.
    I got a permission denied when trying to do the command as shown from the CMD system32 prompt.

    I tried to use Regedit to do this but I got errors in the format so please describe any errors in the command. After Lsa, it doesn't go anywhere or I'm just not able to do the procedure without guidance.

    If I ran diagnostics on the permission denied, not found whatevs, the The Diaknostic for the error says DNS Server not Found. That's for browsers as I understood it. One fix is to reset my ATT router. I haven't tried that.

    From the previous reply....

    Ok so I am behind the times on workgroups. You'd have to refresh me on sharing a folder.
    I remember all that creation of J: K: L: etc. just confused me. The shared folder should be the equivalent of the Public folder on all Win PCs which is all I need and the only one I use.
