I have Windows 10 (64 bit), an ATI Radeon r7 200 graphics card and an Asus monitor (VS248). The aspect ratio while in Windows 10 is always wrong, and appears smushed vertically (top to bottom). It doesn't matter what resolution I have it on, it always looks like this. I can see no way of controlling aspect ration in windows despite other examples I've found online. If I change the aspect ratio on the monitor itself to 4:3 it looks fine (but shrinks the screen size). I'm not sure why it is like this. If I play a game (Star Wars: The Old Republic) it looks normal.

Check whether there is an updated graphics driver available on the manufacturer's website.

It's important to track down and install the correct .inf file (installer) for your monitor, should be under Asus' Support for your model.

The only thing downloadable from Asus website for my model was called Multiframe software and does not work, and wasn't a driver I think anyway. Nothing seems to be working. When I go to look at drivers for the monitor, it just shows "Generic, non-PNP monitor" Below is a screenshot of what my screen looks like.

Problem solved. It was the monitor cable. I was using VGA and switched to HDMI and it is normal now. Funny thing is, at some point it was normal while using the VGA cable, but it stopped working for some reason. Thanks for the help!

OK never mind, now even after it was fixed at first it has reverted back to being distorted, now I'm losing it. This only happened after I had to restart the computer by holding the power button when the game Star Wars: The Old Republic wouldn't exit properly.

    Open the Graphics Properties.
Ensure 'Automatic Scaling' or 'Maintain Scaling' is selected.
