Hi ya folks. I'm having my very first experience with windows 10 home- coming directly from windows 7 pro. (and still really missing XP) Also.. first laptop after tower & double monitor set up.

There's so much that came on this machine.. and boot time is over a minute - it's making me crazy.
I don't recognize quite a few of the installed apps, programs and running processes in task manager, and this blasted thing won't let me install simple things like google earth. I'm not "allowed" in a bunch of folders.. when my account is already admin... and there's a user admin account just called J.

Might someone know what of the following is bloatwear vs important - do not delete stuff? And how to get rid of the ones I don't use.

    HP support solutions framework
    KC softwares start up sentinel
    offline maps
    game bar
    microsoft edge
    one note
    runtime broker
the microsoft store? Do I really need that on my machine?
intel optane memory and storage management
    app installer (microsoft)
    HEIF image extensions
    HP Smart
    HP audio Center
    HP privacy settings
    HP support solutions framework
It also came with MS office.... I never use that
    something called "people"
and "your phone" *my phone is a land line.

Start > Settings > Apps and select 'Anywhere' in the dropdown at the top.

Your slowish startup is in part a function of how much the system is being asked to do during bootup. Open Task Manager > Startup tab and disable anything you are sure you don't need at startup. Post a screenshot if you want advice. Frustration with any new OS is the norm so don't try to rush things. Win 10 is a fine system, as you will understand in time.

The app setting I already have set to anywhere.
task manager only has 5 things listed under start up

    avast
    Classic Start Menu
    Express VPN
    Express VPN notification service starter
    Realtek HD Audio Universal service

I don't know if I need the notification service starter.. I'm not particularly fond of notifications. There have to be a lot more things going on for the boot time to exceed a minute.
I'm not happy about not having access to all of my own computer.. access denied happens a lot.

Then Google Earth, and any other compatible app will intall
Using a VPN slows things - do you really need it?

    Give us some examples

I recommend using Ashampoo WinOptimizer 2020 free full version. Just go to Ashampoo and find it under the free full version software. This program has the ability to disable startup items. AShampoo is a great company, lots of free full version high quality software. Don't change anything that you don't know. Use a lot of caution. I also suggest haunting the free legal commercial software giveaway sites. I have gotten many Windows 10 optimizers there. Of course, don't forget Majorgeeks. This is a really amazing site for free software. That's why I decided to finally join the forums. I also have an HP. Not a bad machine. Very dependable. You just have to figure out Windows 10 and how to hone it.

I would also get rid of Avast and use windows security as Avast slows down computer and they are also selling personal information to 3rd parties.

Absolutely. I had a problem with Avast. When I uninstalled it, it left remnants that I couldn't delete. I did hear that they sell our info. Is that security?!

it used to be called windows defender but they renamed it to windows security. it is alot better than Avast.
