Windows 10 Defender use or not to use?

What does everyone think to windows 10 defender is it adequate protection for a computer or would people be better off downloading 3rd party anti virus?

I got mixed reviews and I don't know what to do either stay with windows defender or download something else.

 

Windows Defender in Windows 10 is adequate.
How you use your PC and what you do on the internet is more important than any security software.

 

I mainly browser on the internet and online gaming through steam platform that's about it. If I download programs for computer there are from here at majorgeeks or at downloads.com

 

Then you'll be fine.

Lots of horror stories have been written about download.com in the recent past so avoid them as the plague. The above link is just 1 article about it. It's NOT a clean download site.

Why so many names for what is the same website?

Worth to read the link in its entirety. Yes, Majorgeeks is on it as well but receives kudos for mentioning the ones which are bundleware and/or notes on the bottom of the download page.

 

As Eldon said, it's really about you rather than which AV. I'm quite sure we're far from being alone here in not having picked up anything worse than tracking cookies in 6 years of Win 7/8.1/10 on several computers using only Microsoft Security Essentials and Defender, the current MSE derivative.
