Hello, Geeks. Hope you're having a safe and happy holiday.

So, I ordered Windows 10 Home from MS after doing their quiz on which version I should order for my needs. I'm installing it on my dad's former machine, which is currently running Windows 7 Pro (YIKES!). My brother, who knows a fair bit about programming computers (FoxPro, anyway) and building them, spent the better part of yesterday trying to solve this problem and failing. I can't tell you everything he tried but I can tell you what I know he tried.

First, he tried following the directions for installing on top of another version of Windows and keeping the settings. The installation stopped once and downloaded a few drivers, including an update for the USB drive, before continuing. Then, the installation reached an apparent impasse when it came to a screen that said, "Avira Antivirus is not compatible with Windows 10. You must manually uninstall it."

My brother did a search of the computer for Avira and found nothing. Next, he looked for it in the program listing for uninstallation (in settings), and found nothing. He Googled the problem and found some file names, searched the computer for them, and found nothing. He ran your antivirus removal tool and restarted the computer. The Windows 10 installation got stuck in the same place.

So, I am trying your anti-malware routine because I know toward the end of his time using his computer Dad often clicked on click bait while in Facebook--no matter how many times we told him not to, bless him. It looks like there were some goonies found. Maybe getting rid of those will help? As you may have guessed, I'm inheriting Dad's machine because his memory card has it all over my machine's memory card. Ironic, as he passed away from Alzheimer's-type dementia.

I appreciate any and all assistance in this matter. Feel free to tell me to just do a full install if it can't be solved this way. I'd just really hoped to keep some of the settings. Thanks so much!

I should also note that I saw MGTools found and zipped TDSKiller results. No idea when that was run, but it wasn't today. My guess is my parents' computer guy did at some point. He had a lot of little programs like that on a thumb drive that he'd install and get things "all fixed." So, anyway, you can ignore those results because the last time Dad used his computer was at least a year ago, and those logs were collected before that time. Hope that helps! Thanks, again.

Please rerun RogueKiller and Hitman and have them remove all they found. Then reboot and rerun both as well as ADWCleaner and attach the new logs.

Will do. When I started it up today, a bunch of analog clock faces appeared on the desktop over the icons on the right-hand side. I know that's not benign ware! Sheesh. Thanks, again. Working....

Uh-oh. Hitman Pro says, "Trial license expired. Removal of viruses and other malicious software is disabled."

Remove them manually if necessary. IIRC, there were only 3 files.

Okay, that did the trick on those. Here are the results from the other two scans, as well as the now clean HitmanPro log. Sorry it took me so long, but HitmanPro was hung up on creating a restore point until I saw your reply saying to uninstall them manually, at which point I was in the middle of a yummy smoked pork chop and in no shape to touch a keyboard. :D

Last thing I will suggest is to right click start / click run and type in %temp% ....remove as much as possible. You should be good to go on the upgrade. If you have issues, please post in the software forums.
