Windows 10 Pro Os Behaving Strangely

    Hi folks,

I'm a semi-technical person running Win 10 Pro. (I say semi-technical because I can follow technical concepts pretty well, but I'm not particular strong in OS/hardware stuff.)

Anyway, I've been running Win 10 Pro since approximately when it came out, with no problem. Nothing particularly fancy going on on my box - mostly surfing and the occasional Steam game.

Lately, I've been noticing some peculiar OS-related behavior. For example, I have a folder on my hard drive where I store photos. If I go there and delete a folder, the folder is immediately deleted, but you wouldn't know that, because the system does not refresh the screen. If I hit F5, the folder disappears. Today about half of the folders in my photos area just wouldn't draw the folder logo. I could only see the name of the folder. (Reboot fixed this.)

I've been having some similar strangeness running Irfanview. I'll edit a photo, save it to my desktop, and then when I go to my desktop, the file isn't there. But if I go back into Irfanview and try to save the file to the desktop again, it offers to overwrite the file that isn't there.

After experiencing the folder issue just now, I tried to restart, and it just got stuck restarting. I had to physically power on and off. It ran a disk check upon reboot, didn't seem to find anything wrong.

So, I'm not quite sure what's going on. I'm up to date on updates. It just feels like something in the OS is just a bit out of whack. As of today (that I noticed), Avast also will not run on my machine. (It says UI could not be loaded.)

I was planning on giving the malware instructions a go, but thought I would ask first here in case there is some suspicion this isn't a malware situation.

    Thanks!

Run the malware scans in the Specialist section and post a new thread there. If a Specialist determines that it's not a malware issue, he/she will refer you back to the software section.

Your physically powering on and off your computer is what triggered chkdsk — the computer didn't power down "properly".

As already suggested you need your system analysed by a Trained Malware Expert.
The forum for that is here:
    https://forums.majorgeeks.com/forums/malware-help-mg-a-specialist-will-reply.35/
But before you post a new thread there, you need to carry out all the steps in the Major Geeks 'Read & Run Me First Malware Removal Guide' for your OS, which is here:
    https://forums.majorgeeks.com/threa...ide-incl-spyware-virus-trojan-hijacker.35407/
When you have completed every step start a new thread in that Specialist forum and attack all the scan logs.
