Windows 10 'sleep Mode' Either Doesn't Sleep, Or Closes All Apps Upon Waking

Hi all,

I've had this problem for a couple of months now, and just stopped using Sleep Mode, which I used to use regularly.

I have a Windows 10 64-bit Desktop PC (10.0, Build 19045). I last reformatted it about 3 years ago.

A couple of months ago, I noticed that when I put my computer to 'Sleep', upon re-waking it, all my applications had closed. This is particularly problematic because I tend to use unsaved notepads as, well, notepads, for temporary To Do lists etc that have vanished upon awaking the PC.

Some of the time, instead of doing the above, pressing 'Sleep' will make my monitors turn off, but the computer doesn't shut down, and no mouse movement, clicking, or typing brings the monitors back online - I have to press the restart or power off button on the case to restart completely.

I've tried to google the issue, and there's lots of YouTube videos recommending:

1.) Running the 'Power Troubleshooter'. I have; all this does is tells me my monitors are on too long before going into standby and 'fixes' the issue (changes it from 20 minutes, to 10 minutes), and turns my PC auto-sleep to 30 minutes (I use 'Never'; especially with the current issue - I'm good at sleeping/turning off my PC generally but occasionally I may need to leave it on for a while)

2.) In Command Prompt (admin) run 'sfc /scannow' - comes back no issues.

3.) In Command Prompt (admin) run 'dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth' - comes back no issues.

4.) In Advanced Power Options, ensure 'Allow hybrid sleeping' is set to ON - it always was.

The problem isn't fixed. Windows Virus Scanner tells me there's no threats, and my PC is up to date with drivers, updates etc.

I'd be grateful if anyone has any ideas, or instructions for any diagnostics they'd like me to run and upload to review.

TBWH, at least I think that's the term these days, any MS OS has never been adept at hibernation or "Sleep" mode in my experience. Ever. Save your work and power down. Means take a break...
