    Hi Guys,
First post but one I know could generate a huge debate but personally I do not understand a few things with this OS, I am running a stock ak-0006a model (specs below)

    Operating System: Windows 10 Home 64-bit (10.0, Build 17134) (17134.rs4_release.180410-1804)
    System Model: HP Laptop 17-ak0x
    Processor: AMD A6-9220 RADEON R4, 5 COMPUTE CORES 2C+3G (2 CPUs), ~2.5GHz
    Memory: 8192MB RAM
    Available OS Memory: 7646MB RAM

Now I'm quite technology minded (although rusty) but my understanding was that windows 10 was released for tablets/tablet pc's which surely can't be as juicy as what's in my laptop? Windows 7 runs like an absolute dream best I've ever experienced but upon upgrading it back (worst mistake of my life) I have experienced nothing but slow and laggy processing speeds, the time it takes from startup is woeful. Yet Windows 7 is absolutely flawless?

I'm just after opinions to be honest because this has baffled me for ages.
    Cheers geeks,
    KT

    Hi

Would agree with you Windows 7 does run great as did my fav of XP but only from SP2 onwards, sadly the more tech addd to an OS the more it needs real power from a PC, CPU is a small factor but main ones are RAM and Drive now I say "drive" as nowadays need to run an SSD over a HDD, HDDs are greta for mass storage but not so much now for IO data transfers, or quick starting apps, hence in part your mentioning of Windows 10 for tablets as they come with SSD storage. However Windows is always in full version geared for desktops.

You may find upgrading if running an upgrade of Win10 over Win7 is not best as to get full potential is a clean install always, too many legacy files from older OS, can in some instances cause issues, also even with an update, did you re-install chipset and other drivers manually, never take a Windows install as finished where drivers are concerned. Startup is one area need to look at what actually starts with your PC, laptops can be slow TBH, but need to looks say wit CCLEANER at startups and slim them down, all bar security apps you likely dont need. Grab if not using already CCleaner and run > Tools > Startup and export the startup list and posts and we can advise as to what you can remove, as startups are a dran on resources, especially as many start auto that you really dont need.

At start I have OneDrive (use it alot)
Backup app Acronis True Image (on delayed start)
    Windows Defender

So basics are check with HP and install all the drivers for your OS version again, especially chipset and then slim down startups, can also check this out here https://forums.majorgeeks.com/threa...and-speed-up-your-computer-for-anyone.316215/

I think David has his finger on it when he says you need a clean install for 10 to run at its best. Of four systems here that were all upgraded to 10 when the free upgrade offer was on, two from 7 and two from 8.1, neither Win 7 system performed well and I ended up doing a clean install on both. That transformed them. Before going for a clean install I did try installing again 'over the top', called a Reset but that didn't help much at all.
