Hi all. I have Win 10TP installed on my laptop. It is the only system on the computer. Working OK for now. Have build 10041. My question is when the update for Win 10 comes out will I be able to get it. May seem like a silly question, but all I see is that those who have Win 7/ Win 8, are able to get the update. Thanks for not laughing too loud. :)

    Hi

and Yes is the answer as from all I have read or know from MSFT contacts at present all TP users will also get Final version Win 10, actually users of TP are likely to get final before anyone else.

Thanks David. The reason I asked is that I understand anyone who as the TP only can not use the system restore to go back to Win 7. Thanks again.

    Hi

As far as I know you can also revert back to Win 7 and Win 8.1 also (as you likely have Win.old saved file on your HDD) as I have that and Win 10 on two test PCs one laptop and a Netbook, have a fudge of a Win 10 install on a SSD that I can boot too on my desktop, but sadly it hates updates!

I would say that to install Windows 10 TP you do take that risk of things not working right, as its a test version and not for usage on a core or dedicated home PC.

Hi David. I have another computer that is my main one to use, so I don't mind trying Win 10 TP on this laptop. For myself, the only problem I'm having is that I don't know yet how to make my task bar (quick launch ) icons bigger. Did the right click to make icons bigger but that only worked on making the desktop icon bigger. I just use my computers for catching up on the news, emails, scrabble and solitaire. Do you know of any Win 10 forums? Or just stay with you guys?

    Hi

With it being beta some options are not yet in the tech preview, but update to the Build 10049 as that has some Start menu updates. Dont off hand remember being able to make the taskbar icons larger in previous Windows, will have a look on a Win 10 PC I have though.

Ahhh stay with us as most of use are or will be using Win 10.

Hello David. I got 10049 TB loaded. I,m still looking for a way to change the task bar icons. Even went into the registry and changed the shell icon size to 64. Still no help. Maybe they will fix that when the OS is ready . Thanks for your help.

Question for you gentlemen. Is the TP free for Windows 10? If so, does this mean that I can install the TP and then upgrade for free to the final release version, even on a PC with no OS?

Or do I have to install the TP over an existing installation of 7, 8, 8.1? Thanks for any clarification...

Yes, the TP is free, but you won't get an option to upgrade it to the public release version. You will need Win 7 or 8/8.1 to qualify for that.

I didn't answer the second question - DON'T install the TP over 7/8/8.1 or you will lose that system's upgrade rights. Do a clean install to a new partition, or to a spare computer or to a VM.

    Hi folks

Just wanted to throw this out as it was talked about at a Microsoft thing I was at a few years back as I asked the question, if we install a TP or beta in a clean install to test as most prefer that, could we not upgrade to full from that with a valid licence from another version of Windows (in this case 7 or 8.1)? I hope they go that route, never know.

But the rest as it stands AltBo is as Earthling posted.

@Coffee Guy, if I come across anything for larger QuickStart icons on Task Bar I will let you know, just a quick question, can you do this with your current Windows and if so by what route? just gives me a starting point.

HI. David, I still use XP for my main computer. The quick launch icons in XP are larger from right clicking the bar and setting it to large. The " shell icon size" in win 10 registry does nothing. I read somewhere to also change the "minwidth." That does nothing also . Nothing will work so far, so I'm getting used to the smaller icons. If you do find a way please let me in on it . Thanks
