It's been nagging me for a few days to do the latest update, so......foolish me, I did.

You know that part that says This could take a while??? At least that part is true....4 hours!!

If this update is in your future...let it run at night or make plans to go out for dinner.

Alas this tip came two days too late for me :(
I did the update the other day and seems I had a bit more luck coz it only took 3 hours.........pity I thought I was hitting print now as I was printing some tax statements while I was talking on the phone to my accountant and I didn't notice that the restart now window popped up in the same position just as I hit the print now button but it now said restart computer now.......3 hours later I could print again :mad:and plus, I had to use my phone to confirm a document the accountant sent by email that he wanted me to check for errors before he sent it off
Jeez I hate Win 10 update...........

I truly have no idea how long any of them take... I've got it set up to wake up my laptop (even when closed) and auto-update at 5am. It even restarts itself without my input.

Yes, update 1903 does take a while to install.....I believe it took an hour and a half to download (60mb downoad speed) and I restarted the next day,and it took about another hour to finish- Probably quicker as a fresh install. (I tried it on one of my copy hard drives. (only around 300gb hard drive)
This is my preferred way of testing new updates, before installing on my main 1tb hard drive, in case they play up....

Operating systems are getting larger and larger as we demand more dynamic content from them, unfortunately so are its updates.

Iam however, probably not the first to suspect that Microsoft are now being extremely selfish when it comes to allocating server bandwidth protocoled for this procedure.
I mean, even an update of 300 or 400mb should not take anywhere near as long as most are experiencing.

Consumers are now starting to question their own network speeds because of this, but hey.......everything else arrives much faster except anything from MS.

There are other causes possible for this also.
Everyones systems are completely different and many components within each individual system can also break or interfere with updates for 10, especially third-party software installations, with the number one suspect being security suites and the likes.
Cluttered Hard Drive's are also something to consider.

Have you had any luck Tim with MS update Fix-it Tool?

1903 was around an hour for me?

I don't think it was a Fix-It issues. And my speed test is 27MB.....both the download and install would sit on a percentage for a good while and then just move up 1 percent.....it was maddening.

@TimW In my case my speed test was 94Mb/s down and 40Mb/s up and it seemed to take forever to go from 24% to 40% and once it got to 80% then it seemed to really speed up......all up 1903 took just on 3 hours and it happened on a weekday afternoon.....in fact it was Friday the 2nd and it started at 2:30pm and ended at 5:25pm..........harumph

I think you hit the nail on the head ......MS servers are the bottleneck either because of the huge number of users updating at any given time or as we suspect the bandwidth is being throttled by MS or maybe to save money they just haven't provided enough server resources to cope with the update traffic in peak periods
I find the only time you get a fast download from MS is if you just paid for a new no CD software bundle and the initial program download comes very quickly compared to any subsequent update or patch download for the same software o_O:(

Interesting but Windows Update 1903 has not shown up in my updates yet. With my slow internet connection updates can take a very long time so a unusually slow update can be frustrating for sure!

Now you know why i have a list of issues with windows 10.

people like oh windows 10 is great....Bam an hour later the updates hit out of know where and screw up every thing.

Then ever one is complaining about the updates once again. Now you know why i stuck with windows 7.

You must have all other previous major updates installed before your given the opportunity at 1903.
    They cant be skipped.
Hard drive space must be adequate and it must be done from an admin account.

None here either.....not sure what all the fuss is about?

I like my win 10. What I said about updates taking a long time applies to my win7 also. Extremely slow internet kills me.

I got Win update 1903 Monday. I can't say how long the update took because after 3 hours I went to sleep. Tuesday morning I let it install and that took a while to complete. I had no issues or problems other than the download was slow which I had expected.
