Tried searching for this but I'm new here and can't seem to find it.

I'm not able to set up an Internet Connection with the ICW in both of my computers with Windows 2000. I get all the way to step 3 - Step 3 of 3: Configuring your computer

I enter Acmenet for the Configuration name, click next and then get this error message -

"Acmenet is not a valid name. The entry name must contain at least one character that is not a space and cannot begin with a period. Choose a different name."

It doesn't matter what name I put in the box, I still get the error message.
Is there a way to manually set up a connection or download a file from the internet to replace the Wizard?:cry
Or is there another fix for this problem? I am still on dial up. Thank you.
Also, how do I enable "send a private message" on this site? I can't seem to figure it out.

You must use the wizard. Try it this way.

    Start>settings>controlpanel>network and dialup connections

    click make new connection

click next>choose dialup to the internet>next

choose I want to setup manually>next

choose connect through aphone line & modem>next

allow the pc to detect your modem, unless there is a problem>next

Input phone no of ISP to dial>next

    input username and password>next

Connection name box should show "connection to xxxxx" where xxxis the ISPphone no.

click next (you can change this later)

click no to setup email for the moment you can set it up later

    click finish.

test you connection by double clicking on it

When it works right click and choose rename.

    Hey Yatarola,

The name of Acmenet is invalid because it must end in a .com or .net etc...

Also, the name could be something like abc.Acmenet.com etc..

Check with Acmenet for the correct settings.

Funny becaue I've always been able to rename to anything I want. Its only the name that appears to identify the connection in network connections and for any shortcut you put on your desktop.
I've never actually seen an 'invalid name' box.

I actually set up a dialup in Win2k, before posting, to make sure my list worked, and it does indeed come up with "connection to 123456789" as a default offering
No dot com or dot anything.
