Windows 2000 Desktop Gone

grandeson purchased used computer running win. 2000 and used several days on internet with no antivirus. (I know and told him he got what he deserved) Upon installing Norton 2005 it told him he had W32.Desktophijack. He let norton clean it then rebooted. No Desktop, Still has virus. I can access programs through Task Manager but can'nt restore desktop. Anyone have a sugjestion

Using the internet without Anti Virus is just like playing poker - taking risks!
The best solution in my opinion is to reinstall Windows...
in such case, when you can access your programs only through Task Manager, I really don't think there's much to do...
