    Hello,

I've been having this problem for a few weeks now and have posted here before, but without any help. I'll try again... hopefully, an expert can help me out.

At the end of March, I did a Windows Update on my computer. My OS is Windows 2000 SP4. Because I have never updated my windows after upgrading to SP4, there were a whole bunch of updates (77, to be exact) that I had to do. After doing the updates, I found that I would get a lot of DNS errors on IE 6.0/Firefox 3.0.8. I have uploaded and attached the screenshot, so you guys know what I'm talking about. Only when I hit refresh a few times or wait for about a minute then hit refresh, I would get to my intended site.

These DNS errors occur with very popular websites, such as Google, Yahoo, and Facebook. It can also affect booting my MSN, as I would get something to the extent that says that I cannot be connected right now. Please try again later.

Is it a problem with my ISP? No. I am currently hooked up in a network to another computer. That other computer's Internet is working perfectly. Is it the router? No. Prior to the Windows Update, I had no problems with the Internet. My router's been working as usual.

I've tried resetting my Winsock already. That didn't work. I've also downloaded that WinsockXP program (that supposedly works for Windows 2000) and ran it. That didn't work as well. I've even tried uninstalling the Internet updates that I downloaded and installed from the Windows Update. No good there, either.

Please help!! This problem is quite annoying, and I wish someone can give me a solution. Again, I would like to emphasize that this problem occurred after my Windows Update. Thanks!

The problem is probably not related to your visit at Microsoft Update. However, try to go there again - this time select the button "Custom". Install what it suggests.

Furthermore, support for exactly this kind of errors would usually be a part of your internet subscription because this concerns your internet access. You are in all likelihood entitled to immediate assistance from your provider over the phone. The company are obliged by law to give you what you pay for: internet.

Updating 3. party software could also help. Secunia PSI is very helpful in that regard: http://majorgeeks.com/Secunia_Personal_Software_Inspector_PSI_d6096.html

    Hi Cordialis,

As I mentioned before, the other computer that is hooked up to the same network and under the same ISP has a perfectly running Internet. My problem started right after finishing my Windows Update. Whether or not the update caused my Internet to go 'screwy' is a question that I'm uncertain.

It's not like I'm getting absolutely no Internet from this computer. It's just that I have to hit 'refresh' a few times in order to get to the site I want. If I told that to my ISP, they would say that there is something wrong with my computer.

I know but you should still call your provider. Your subscription is not just for one computer. I still don't think that the update had anything to do with it. All PC problems are discovered when you are working on the computer. That doesn't mean that whatever you were doing caused the error. But I could be wrong. That's why I suggest that you go to Microsoft Update again. A (hot)fix could be there waiting for you. Remember to click the "Custom" button this time.

I don't know what this bat file can do - found it in another thread: http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=169060

And update 3d party software. Install Secunia.

You have a computer that shows too many DNS errors. And you are entitled to support for that. Even if it concerns your computer settings.
