Windows 2000 problem

Can anyone help with this.

I am running W2k pro SP3. After uninstalling a CDR prog the system has been unable to access the drivers for both my CD and CDR drives. When querying the device manager I get the following message:

"This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device. (Code 31)"

I have tried reinstalling the appropriate drivers , also un- and reinstalling both drives as well as installing another CD drive but to no avail.
I'm starting to think that uninstalling the CDR prog must have removed or corrupted some essential files required to recognise and run the CD drives

So if anyone recognises the problem and knows a fix please let me know asap.
If there are some files I need to replace can you please give links as I can't access mine as they are on CD only.

I hope there is a solution for this other than reinstalling W2k from scratch as that would bugger all my installed progs.

What CD-R program caused the mess ? (it will make it easier to find others with similar problem)

I would recommend using the Device Manager for uninstalling all the cd-rom drives, IDE ATA/ATAPI-controllers and then also use this tip to remove any ghost devices which might be hidding:

After uninstalling press "Action" -> "Scan for hardware changes" and they should all be redectected.

Also might want to check "Non-Plug and Play drivers" and see if there is any devices which resembles the name of the CD-R program.
