The PC I am working on has W2k as its OS. My cousin complained that it is soooo very sloooowww, she can't do anything.

I used Ctrl, Alt, Del to get to the Task Manager and used the Performance tab. It showed 100% CPU Usage. I went to the Processes tab and found in the CPU column that an Image Name of HidDll32.exe was running the remaining percentage not being used by other Image Names so to make 100% CPU usage. I am not clear on what that is and it looks suspicious.

Also, at times, the Image Name above it, windll32.exe, would 'take the lead' temporarily, running 65%, 80%, 55%, etc, seemingly using the remainder of the CPU available to make 100%.

Any ideas or suggestions on how to deal with this?

Both processes are viruses. Might want to check out out This Thread and then start a thread in that forum if you need further assistance.

Is it safe to assume that all of those downloads can be downloaded on another pc, copied to a CD, placed on the infected machine and run as perscribed?

The sick PC won't even log on the dialup...

That shouldn't be a problem, as long as you can install and run, the input media should be irrelevant.

Welcome to Major Geeks btw :)
