Windows 2000 Shutdown Issues

When I go to hit Shut Down or Restart from the start menu, my computer usually hangs or just fails to respond. The longer I keep my machine on, it seems the more it happens, but this happens 90% of the time. Hitting Log Off usually does something similar. From what I've read, this might be a driver issue in which it fails to release something or another.

I also read up on a process I always have running: delvdr32.exe, which is part of the SoundBlaster card I have. I got some information here: http://www.answersthatwork.com/Tasklist_pages/tasklist_d.htm that said that this program is very troublesome and I think this might be the cause of my shut down woes. But when I try to close it, a little while later (say in a minute or 2), my computer randomly restarts!

Does anyone have any experience with this and could help me out? Thanks.

My system specs are the following: Windows 2000 Pro w/SP4, 512mb RAM, AMD Athlon XP 1600, SB Live 5.1

Here is a link, http://aumha.org/win5/a/shtdwnxp.php to WINDOWS XP
    SHUTDOWN & RESTART TROUBLESOOTING.

I know you have Windows 2000 Pro but scroll down to the title SBLive: DEVLDR32.EXE PROBLEMS it describes what might be your problem and possible solutions. Sounds like you might be right and maybe this article can help you a little.
