Windows 2000 VPN Connection - Try and help me figure this one out

Ok here is my problem
I have a windows 2000 workstation and I had a vpn connection all setup and now it is no longer working
when I try to recreate the connection through new connection wizard the option for vpn is grayed out.
infact everything is grayed out but dialup connection and direct connection
I am able to get online with the computer so it is not that.
I have tried to remove tcp/ip and reinstall it - did not work
I tried to remove the network addapter and let windows reinstall it - did not work

I am starting to run out of ideas

if anyone has seen this or has an idea to fix it that would be wonderful

Have any errors (or unusual messages) in the Event Log ?

Is the following services set to Manual (or Automatic) and can you start them manually:

Network Connections
Telephony
Remote Access Connection Manager
Remote Access Auto Connection Manager

 

I am not sure I understand what you are talking about

 

Windows 2000 have a large collection of services, that provides different kind of functionality (Like VPN). If certain services fails to function, then the functionality provided by them will not be available.

To access the configuration of services (To change startup-state and manual start and stop services) run this command (Start -> Run...):
