    Good Day,

I have a Windows 2003 server that is running Oracle. We're having some issues with Oracle, and we are contacting support. Oracle has requested the SID of this machine.

I'm not too sure what to tell them! WHICH SID is it that they want? Anyone have any ideas? I'd ask Oracle, but we can only contact them via this silly web form, and the SID is a required field.

    Thanks for any input,

    Milty

I vote for the following one ...... I could be wrong but it makes more sense than the 100's of other defs

    SID (System Identifier)
A SID (almost) uniquely identifies an instance. Actually, $ORACLE_HOME, $ORACLE_SID and $HOSTNAME identify an instance uniquely.
The SID is 64 characters, or less; at least on Oracle 9i.
The system identifier is included in the CONNECT_DATA parts of the connect descriptors in a tnsnames.ora file.
The SID defaults to the database name.

    Yup! That's the one! Thanks!

Silly me, I should have known that! I deal with this ALL the time.

For some reason though, I was thinking of WINDOWS SIDs... the form was asking the computer platform in the same textbox.
