I'm trying to repair my Mom's computer. She recently installed Skype on her computer and while she was checking email her computer crashed. I looked online to see if installing Skype caused her computer to crash but did not find anything.

I'm not able to boot in safe mode and windows is not able to find a solution to the problem. The computer keeps going on the infinite loop. Any suggestions?

    Hp computer, Windows 2007 OS.

I assume that you are pressing F8 to get the menu up for safe mode during boot? If not, just before the windows startup screen (where the flashing windows logo appears) keep repeatedly pressing F8 until you get a list. Choose "safe mode" in that list.

We also need more information from you:

    1. When you say Windows 2007 OS are you referring to Windows 7 or Office 2007, which are different things. I am not trying to be rude saying this, but we have to be clear.
    2. What error messages are you getting, or is the computer just turning off/rebooting randomly?

Skype might be the cause of the problem, but it might only have been a trigger to an underlying problem.

Thanks, I tried your link and ended up getting to this page:

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2839011

I'm trying to do 'Option 3: Uninstall security update 2823324 at the command prompt' since I could not do the first 2 options. My problem now is when I enter 'dism /image:C:\ /get-packages' as indicated in the link above I get an:

    Error: 2
    Unable to access the image.
Make sure that the image path and the Windows directory for the image exist and you have Read permissions on the folder.

The DISM log file can be found at X:\windows\Logs\DISM\dism.log

My command prompt reads 'Administrator:X:\WINDOWS\System32\cmd.exe' so I don't think it is a permissions error but I could be wrong.

    Am I missing something?

I have never uninstalled an update using a command.

It says "At the command prompt, run the following command:
dism /image:C:\ /get-packages " What do you see as your command prompt C or X?

You might have to cd to c (cd means change directory) until you see C:\ before you enter the above command.
