Windows 2K boot error

When starting up, I get the message " Windows 2K would not start, problem: load needed DLLs for Kernel." I have read similar problems that were posted, but none have helped. I tried the repair "R" from the win 2K cd, and safe mode does nothing. Also, BIOS does not recognize the hard drive on boot up. It does recognize the RAM. I have no rescue disks.

Questions: 1.) I am thinking of buying "PC Doctor" CD to hopefully save my data. Would this help? Would it only save my data, but not my programs? 2.) Is reformatting my only option left?

    System : RAM = 256 MB // CPU = 350 MH // HD = Western Digital 100 GB 7200 RPM

    Thanks for any assistance!

well im not sure how to fix the problem, try pressing "R" and get to the recovery console and type 'fixboot', see if that does anything for you. if not, go to www.linuxiso.org and download and burn knoppix onto a CD, knoppix will boot off the cd and never install anything to your harddrive, then from knoppix, you can save all of your files onto a cd if your harddrive is still working.

someone else may have a better suggestion, but thats what i would do
