    Hokay.

I might be moving over to 2k Pro support.

As such, I will likely format my machine at home and install 2k.

Can anyone think of any games that work in XP, that don't work or suffer in 2k?

Because I use my own computer as a guinea pig when learning how to fix things.

I did it with XP, and now I will do it with 2k, probably.

That, and I am bored with XP :)

    No more mysteries.

    All sorts of stuff.

Battlefield XXXX games, UT games, GTA games.

    Future purchases?

    Just Guildwars :)

The thing is though I am talking about present and past games.

I've never had an XP game problem.

Yeah there is a compat mode, just not so obvious in 2k. It was added in some previous Service Pack, not out of the box.

    Correct ;)

I have been using Win2k with games since it was released (And using WinXP at work with no games ;)). I haven't had any problems with playing (new/old) windows games so far. If I did have problems then it was related to:
    1. Driver problems (Going back or forth in driver versions)
    2. Game engine problems (Solved with patches)
    3. Hardware Problems (overclocking, heat etc.)

Have seen several test of Win2k/WinXP performance in games, and they were both very equal (Eventough WinXP should include some optimizations in memory allocations and handling).

Simply put, one can trace the Windows XP gaming problems back to when XP was released. Theres an old XP patch that addresses some issues with hanging games, but more importantly, you have to expect with the advancements in hardware as well as operating systems that there is going to be incompatibilities. You also hope that the company who charged you 40 or 50 bucks for a game would make sure, or patch, their games to work properly. Since everything is written for XP now, the only problems you may run into is a rare older game. Unless you have DOS games (and even then you can work many of them) there should not be any problems with XP.

I thnk Snakefoot also explained it very well. Most issues can be traced to drivers, game patches or a computer problem.
