Windows 64 is a different beast, you probably do not have any data or applications that can be read by it. Everything has to be 64 bit. It is supposed to be able to run 32-bit applications also, but from the testing I did under Windows 2003 Server 64-bit, I never saw it happen, it wouldn't allow it.

Not ready for prime time yet. Try Linux 64 instead. :)

    My opinion anyway.

XP64 can read 32 bit apps via WOW32. I am certain of it.

It has been rtm for quite some time on Itanium machines.

The beta versions you see now are for the AMD 64 and Opteron architecture.

It emulates 32 bit for 32 bit apps.

I agree however, its not ready for primetime.

What is WOW32? 3rd party or something that comes with the OS?

Can you tell me more Adrynalyne?

    Windows On Windows.

It is an emulatation procedure/program/whatever used for software architecture that is not natively supported by the OS.

Regular XP has WOW16 for 16 bit apps, and the NTVDM for Dos apps.

You can learn about XP64 and its features, here:

Like Karl said I wouldnt bother installing it unless you have spare PC with 64bit CPU that is not your main PC as beta's can be very flaky at times with both the hardware/software you have.

I agree, it's a bit wobbly, most apps don't work, (very well). I'll keep playing though, that's who we are:)

On the other hand Fedora Core 3 64 bit is very stable and fast. There's a DVD ISO on Red Hats site. I've been using Mandrake up to now but this I like, oh yes;) :D

You might not want to go back to Windows after you switch..... ;)

It's nice to have both handy.

You will find it very easy to use, (and fun), understanding takes a little longer but hey I've had to learn DOS, (still useful occasionally), Windows 2.0, 3.0, 3.1, ME (yikes!), 2000, XP and Macs. Are we not Geeks?

    Is it fast.....Oh yeah:D
