windows 7 activation error

I did a clean install of Windows 7 Ultimate. When I put in the product key it tells me I did an upgrade. But I really did a clean install. After 2 hours with microsoft they tell me I must have purchased an upgrade disc and not a complete disc. I am now in a different city. Is there any way to get this activated without purchasing a new Windows 7 CD?

Did you buy an upgrade disc though? Look in the upper left corner of the box and see if it says upgrade.

Just follow the instructions and this will work. I did this with a clean install option of the Home Premium and it worked fine.

To be honest, I love Windows 7, but the whole upgrade clean install restriction is such a pain in the booty. rolleyes
