I have a new windows 7 machine for a user. We do not have any group policies set-up. I have made the user an administrator on the machine as he will be working in another country and need full access to the machine. I have added the machine to our domain and all is good. However whenever I am logged into the machine as the user I cannot install anything without it stating it needs the administrator ID and password. I couldn't even do windows updates. I have never had this problem before. Now if I log into the machine as myself which I am a domain admin and in the admin group I have no problems installing anything.

Where I get confused is the fact that the user is an admin on the machine and if we do not have any group policies in place why is it doing this?

Depending on the problem this may or may not work; however it's quick and worth a try.

When logged in, click the start icon (bottom left) and type in/run "UAC" (user account control). Drop the UAC setting from the default to the lowest level, do whatever software installs/updates are needed then re-enter UAC and reset it back to the default level.

(Warning: With UAC turned off, the PC will be more venerable to malware and security attacks. For this reason, I do not recommend leaving it off permanently.)

Hope this tip works for you. :)

Are ye sure no group policies are in place?

Try bring up a command windows (cmd) and running:

    gpresult /r

This will tell you what group policies are running on this computer.

If need be, post here the results. You can simply use:

    gpresult /r > result.txt

then post the .txt file here.

In addition you can look at the following keys:

    HKLM\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\group policy
    HKLM\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\policies

The UAC is turned off and the only Group Policy is the default server policy. There are no new created policies of any kind. I have been through the entire default policy and cannot find anything to change that would allow the user to install software and updates. We are a very small company and most users are administrators on their machines to run certain software we have but Windows 7 is giving me issues with this. As it still wants admin ID and password to install anything.

This is becoming very difficult. If I can't get it working right I may have to revert back to XP or have each user log onto their machine locally as when they do that there are no problems. It's only when logged into the domain.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks!!!!!
