I'm not sure if this belongs in hardware or software, but... I need some help.

Lately, after installing something my computer hasn't been the same. It hangs when I try to put the computer in sleep mode, and has started doing it when I attempt a restart too unless I force shutdown the computer. And I'm attempting a system restore, but it's been well over an hour and it hasn't even initialized--is this normal?

I'm concerned that it's hanging during the process again, and I don't know what to do to fix this. I have Windows 7 and it's a 64bit PC if that helps.

Is there anything else I need to provide? Is there any way to locate the source of the problem? Please help me when you have the time.

Also, it's an ASUS brand computer, and it's pretty old. But it's very rarely if ever given me problems up until recently. Not sure what the model number is. Please don't be too harsh on me if I've missed something.
