Windows 7 and Visual Basic 6.0

Hello,
I am new to this forum and am needing a little information before I install Windows 7. I am using Visual Basic 6.0 and Office XP Pro, specifically Access in that version of office.
Are both of those programs going to be compatible with Windows 7?? What version should I buy?? I realize that I will have to do a clean install, but I would hate to install Windows 7 and VB 6 and Access not work.

I have never tried installing either of them on Windows 7 but my guess is that they would work.
If not, Windows 7 comes with a XP mode which is a virtual machine that will run all XP software.

 

Office XP will be compatible but Visual Basic 6 might be an issue. Since VB6, there has been VB2003/5/7 and 10 will be out late next year from my understanding.

IMO, you might want to make sure that you use Win7 Ultimate or Pro making sure that you can run the Virtual PC in Windows XP mode. (http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-7/features/windows-xp-mode.aspx)

BTW, make sure you check your CPU to see if the Windows XP mode will run on it. There are some CPU's that are not capable of running this mode.

 

I am using a dell dimension p4 2.8 ghz, 2 meg ram. It was built in 2005. How do I check to see if the processor will run with Windows 7??

 

The processor will run on Windows 7. It's the Windows XP mode in Windows 7 that you will definitely have issues with.
