i have been installing some games and noticed that my autorun is not starting like it should be, which is to run the games autorun.exe from the disk, i have tryed afew game disks and windows will not run the Autorun.exe.

it was doing it but i forget how long ago it was as most the games iv been playing do not need a disk. as they are either patched ( by the game company ) or are made where they do not need the disk in the drive. now i have gone to play elder scrolls 4 and noticed that the game is not launching its autorun.exe

i have tryed to change the settings in the autoplay in windows but that does nothing.

i have uploaded some Screen shots of what im talking about. but im still not sure at all you are sure what im speaking of. i also have a link that can futher explain what im talking about.

thank you so much, btw i recently posted to get rid of malware and stuff.

i have been looking around on the net, and have taken a look at Associated file type/protocol, and Exe is missing from the list. im not sure at all if this helps. but i find it odd. but i do a line for .application but next to the line it says the following, clickonce application deployment support library, this seems to be totaly wrong.

another thing i have noticed is that i can click Battlefield 2 or any other game and they wont start but the exe is running with low amounts of memory in the background and have to end it and reopen the game which at that time it starts and other times it wont start.

i have checked the registry under the following keys.

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\cdrom
Autorun is marked with a 1, which means its enabled.

i also noticed at the same place the following vaule under autorun.
AutoRunAlwaysDisable, which list some drives which are...

    NEC MBR-7
    NEC MBR-7.4
    PIONEER CHANGR DRM-1804X
    PIONEER CD-ROM DRM-6324X
    PIONEER CD-ROM DRM-624X
    TORiSAN CD-ROM CDR_C36

the funny thing is that autorun/play was working it seems until i got rid of the virus/malware or what not. but now it seems to not be working. thats funny to me. seems it be the other way around. odd after effect.

also when i view computer it doesnt show the game icon like it should. and i can double click the drive and it just opens as a folder. im not at all sure what to do.

i read on another site to delete the autorun key and restart and it will be refreshed. but im not wanting to do that until told to do so.

    any ideas...

    i also Find this website
talking about missing registry keys. and i dont have all those keys scroll down to the very bottom of the site where it talks about vista. i have the following keys.

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FileExts\.exe
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FileExts\.exe\OpenWithList
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FileExts\.exe\OpenWithProgids

i also Found this site which gives a fix for exe list problems, which i downloaded but not have done anything with the download.

    My two cents.
Did you check the values for the, NoDriveTypeAutoRun registry entry. Also mentiond in your link in post# 1 point #4.

Here's another link. (easier to read) And I'll quote.
    http://vistasupport.mvps.org/autorun_autoplay_don't_work_when_cddvd_is_inserted.htm

Instead of the file association fix for an .exe linked by you, I'd try the .inf fix here.

    Cheers..

Edit to add: I posted all for VISTA!!!! Ekks fixed the last link Reg values are same in this case for Vista and 7.

lol, iv been digging around the net and found something that is totaly helpfull. i dont know what i did or didnt do but i got autoplay to work again and everthings back to normal.

i found this on some site, and i deleted the key and replaced it, but i thought id delete it and leave it deleted, so i deleted it again and than turned off autoplay for all devices in the control planel, ejected my disk and put it back in, and it worked, so i than re enabled autoplay for all devices and it now opens the games autorun like it should.

heres what i found. talk about digging tho the world wide web of tech support forums.

this seemed to work, and than disabling and re enabling autoplay in the control planel seems to do the trick. but remember i deleted the autorun.inf and have not replaced it. one reason is because i have no clue what the value is for it. but it doesnt seem to matter tho. my other pc doesnt have the key anyways. so something was just tiggered somehow. i dont know just happen.

thank you for your reply. i had also posted at another tech forum just to get this work around out there more :-D

All's well that ends well. ;)
Registry is a pain for me. Requires constant study.
Classic case of "use it or lose it.'' I keep losing it. :-D
