I downloaded win 7 beta awhile back and am just now tring to install. I am having problems with the driver for the cd/dvd drive. While going through install it asks for the driver for the drive. I am not sure which driver it needs or how to get it on there. If it was just updating a driver no prob but never done this while doing the install. Any thoughts?

    Hi

Normally Windows doesnt ask these days for a CD/DVD drives driver? so what is your PC make and model if OEM like Dell, HP etc or if home build whats the Drives make and model?

Did you download the ISO and burn to DVD? if you did did you burn at a slower rate like x4 as burning ISOs are times and the Windows ones is prone to not work properly at times.

Check for BIOS updates for your motherboard as thats a common cause of not recognising hardware on an install.

Also is it the beta of Windows 7 you have or the RC (release candidate) if the beta then dump it and get the RC version http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-7/download.aspx

It is a dell D600 laptop.

The iso was burned to a dvd. If I remember right it should have been burned at a slow rate.

Where do I get BIOS updates?

I will dump the beta and go get the RC version and see if that helps.

    Thanks you for your suggestions.

    Hi

Drivers and BIOS are here at Dell Support Do check the version of BIOS you already have as you may have latest as Dell are not know for updating them often, can user Everest for this and click once run, Motherboard > Bios and should tell you version *bios updating is not to be taken lightly and not always needed to read all instructions to install from Dell before attempting*

Maybe your Laptop is a bit old to run Windows 7, if it has run Vista in the past ok then you maybe ok, but it was designed around W2K and XP.

Another question are you doing a clean install (boot from DVD) or installing from inside already installed Windows, if so then run this upgrade advisor to check (its not extensive yet but worth a run)
