    I have two problems.

When I restart my computer. I have CMOS battery is low error message. It tells me to push F1 to run setup or F2 to load setting from NVRAM.

I have already replaced the battery. The original battery I measured at 3 volts. I replaced it with a new one at 3 volts etc. Problem still persists.

When my computer finally logs in. All the taskbar Icons are missing (Bottom right). I discovered that Logging out and logging back in will make them all reappear again. I dont want some temporary fix. I'm looking for a solution.

Also when i restart my PC my clock is reset each time.

    Greetings, Dynex...

This could very well turn out to be a motherboard issue - any info/specs you could provide might prove helpful...

    Hi

Also check that you dont have Chasis Intrusion enabled in the BIOS. Make sure the motherboard battery contacts are clean and free from dust and grubby finger grease marks as finger grease on batteries and the contacts can at times not allow the power to flow.

But dont know why this is a Windows 7 issue, its hardware.

I had an old flaking power supply that caused this on an Asus board a couple of years ago.

Agreed: PSUs can cause some pretty misleading problems...

Hmm is there a way to test my PSU? Should I just send my PSU and Motherboard in for warranty?

I wasn't sure if it was a hardware problem, because my hardware seems to be working, and I already replaced the battery once..

As well I am unsure if the second problem I have is related. The clock reset would be related to the CMOS. But what does that have to do with the rest of my taskbar icons disappearing?

I have to find the boxes for my hardware.. i always forget what the hell I bought.. lol So ill post that after this sometime tonight.

    So i have windows 7 64-bit

    Western Digital Velociraptor 300gb SATA
    MSI 790FX-GD70 AM3 motherboard
    Koutech IO-FPM220 3.5 Floppy & Multicard reader
    Thermaltake Element G case
    Thermaltake Spin Q Cooler
    Radeon HD 5870 1gig 256bit DDR5
AMD Phenom II X4 965 black edition 3.4 Ghz
    Corsair Dominator 4GB (2x2gb) DDR3 1600 - Total 8 Gigs
Ultra X4 1050W ATX power supply

Also this started around the time my old UPS battery
backup ran out of battery. It was Belkin 1250 Watt surge
protection or something. (4-6 years old) I bought a new
one. APC XS 1500. So now i have a fresh battery etc

My chassis intrusion was already disabled.. and my bios version is 1.9 would updating the bios fix this?

    Nice equipment!

There are PSU checkers available...the plug-in type runs about $5...

If this stuff is still under warranty, then yes - IMO, if you can do without the machine for a while, you might consider an RMA for peace of mind...

So, even after replacing the battery, you're still getting the F1/F2 prompts? This sure looks like a hardware exercise to me - as far as I know, Windows has nothing to do with basic motherboard functions, such as battery failure - that's BIOS...

Coupled with the fact that this started around the time your old UPS battery
backup ran out of battery, you might consider checking/replacing your PSU...if you're comfortable with flashing your BIOS, then go for it - the data may contain fixes for any firmware problems...

I contacted MSI the creators of my motherboard and they
also suggested to flash my BIOS from v1.9 to 1.D and said
there is no such problem like this on their end...

I have something to add to this however. Right now i just
started my computer. From a shutdown. And the CMOS
message didn't happen, and all my taskbar icons loaded
    perfectly...

One thing to note is that the windows login screen was a
    different resolution this time.

Sometimes the login screen is bigger, sometimes it is
smaller. Any idea why? Do you think that is related? My
graphic driver is completely up to date I already updated
    it 3 days ago.

Once I flash my bios I will look into replacing the PSU or
motherboard if I still have this problem. If anyone else has
any ideas please help me investigate them. And thanks to
everyone for your posts and help.

And Caliban yeah my UPS battery gave out, so I replaced
it. However I have never replaced my PSU. I did replace
the CMOS battery and the F1/F2 messages still appear.

As I just explained once in a blue moon I wont get the
    messages and everything starts Fine.

Strange problem - intermittents can be the hardest to troubleshoot...

Yeah: if the problem persists, I'd flash it, see if that would help...

Good luck - keep us posted...

also, in addition to flashing, it now sounds like you are having a problem with preferences being retained. This is usually the result of a corrupted Windows profile.

Try setting up a new user account and see if the problem persists.
