Windows 7 boot problem - repair cannot be done automatically

The other day my PC went into hibernation and wouldn't come out of it ( black screen ) so i had to power off at the wall . Upon restarting i get the error message THIS COMPUTER CANNOT BE REPAIRED AUTOMATICALLY (or words to that effect )

I do not have the original Win7 disc, thats been long lost

It is Win7 Professional i've got

There is no system restore points on my PC ( which i dont understand cos i've used that before, they all seem to have gone )
