Im sorry if this is in the wrong section, and if hopefuly an admin could move it, but so far i just cant stop thinking its a windows 7 problem.

    heres my specs:
    compaq cq40-310au
procie - dual core amd 2.1ghz
    ram : 3gb ddr2
    videocard : ati hd3200.

on ALL players i get really grainy pixelated playback, (only on dvds etc) on videos that i video'd and put on my laptop they are crystal clear. it mainly happens during scenes that are dark, or if they are wearing a black shirt etc.

    ive tried:
    1-downloading sharks007 codecs
2-VLC using openGL mode directX mode
3-reinstalled the drivers to the video card (now i get an error that CCC command line cant open)

ive spent the last 5 days looking for ways to fix this to no avail, i just bought this laptop for my wife for our anniversary and i dont want to give it to her looking like this.

im at a loss. i know nothing about laptops and windows 7.
i hope someone can help me out, would be greatly appreciated.

    sincerely,
    Jason

The videos you are having problems with, are these store bought DVD's, or are they downloaded/torrented videos ? Often, with downloaded/torrented videos, the resolution and FPS are reduced and files may be compressed to make smaller file sizes. This causes lower resolution, lower FPS, and a generally lower quality video. Take one example of a grainy video and one of a good quality video, preferably of similar length (in playtime) and compare the file size . Or have a look at the right click "properties" and get a resolution and FPS spec . This may provide some insight into your issue. Post again with your findings.

This happens with both store bought dvd's and torrented etc. any kind of movie file type has this problem, ive tried searching and it seems alot of people have this problem that goes unresolved. and all the dvd's work fine in my desktop and dvd player.

any other thoughts? was thinking about slip installing a windows xp if it would help the problem. thanks and sorry for the late reply!
