The referenced system is an HP Desktop, Model # is 4316F-B, 64 bit; Production Code is #AY570AA #ABA.

Using an HP 64 Win 7 Desktop System; never had a boot up problem until a power failure (AC) a month ago. When the power on button is pressed, the normal HP screen with four options shows, but then the screen goes black and nothing happens. I can get into the bios system screen. Tried the Recovery Repair Disc, and it did not work.

Are you comfortable using a command prompt? And, the "still using W7" lecture is implied.;)

Yes, I am comfortable using a command prompt. The Win 7 computer in our office is used primarily for archival material. I ran a diagnostic upon start up, all passed with the exception of the Hard Drive. HD Error Code BIOHD-8.. "Smart Test Failed On the Drive. The Boot Path passed, AMD ATHLON XX x4 620 PROCESSOR. Product Code AY570AA- ABA. Hope this is enough info for you to make a determnination. The serial number is 3CR01113RB; I can't see the HD in the bios

    and
    You have your answer.

The best you can hope for is to pull the dead hard drive out, attach it by USB to a fully booted up computer and hope you can see files to rescue.

If you were in the habit of making images of the Win 7 computer, you'd be able to replace the dead hard drive, restore the newest image made and you'd be up and operational in an hour or two depending on the size of the image.

The HDD could also be installed to and connected internally to another machine via a SATA cable like any other drive to hopefully access files. If it's still possible to do so.
