Windows 7 DVD/CD Issues?

Alright I’ve downloaded the Windows 7 RC, installed it on my machine and for some reason (I’m hoping someone here already seen this) it refuses to read certain discs? The same DVD drive, a BENQ DW 1650 (listed as SCSI even though I know it’s IDE?) works perfectly in Vista and XP?

Example in Vista or XP I put in DoomIII.. menu pops up, follow the wizard install each disc and play the game. In Windows 7 I put the disc in and nothing happens? Auto run is on, I go to My Computer and I’ve got the green vista type bar at the top of the screen showing me it’s attempting to read the disc but it never will? I’m now forced to hit reset as it won’t shut down if I hit start – shutdown. If I restart keeping the game disc in the drive it’ll let me read the disc the second I’m back in windows, insert the 2nd disc and it refuses to read it? Does the same with random DVD’s and games?

Now if I restart in safe mode it’ll read anything I throw at it every time without fail just like in XP and Vista? I thought it was my A/V Avast so I switched it off and still it refused to load the disc?

What’s missing? I’m sure there’s a process I’m not yet familiar with that’s causing this stupidity or some over protective feature going insane on these games? Any and all suggestions short of ditching 7 would be most welcome.

4GB DDR 800 RAM
360GB SATA + 500GB SATA Hard Drives
Radeon 4830 PCIe 512MB

 

Confirmed the same CD/DVD driver is used in safe mode. that means I need to figure out whats stalling things on me with certain games/dvds?
