I have browsed through the forums and none of the other failed to start post seem to fit my case, which is why I made a new thread.

    PC:
    ASUS P6T motherboard
    Core i7 920
    6GB DDR3
    Nvidia gtx 275
    Corsair Force 3 SSD
    Hitachi 500GB 7200rpm
    Hitachi 300GB 7200rpm
    Corsair GS700 PSU

About a month ago my PC was randomly freezing still image on the screen and I was forced to hard reset to get it going again. Then I started getting the windows failed to load, so I figured it was the SSD that was messing up. I loaded up windows onto one of my hitachi storage drives and everything was good for about 2 or 3 weeks. Within that time I had a few freezes, and then this morning windows failed to start again.

I figured the issue was not the SSD so I tried a fresh install on the SSD again, and this time after the first reboot on the installation the screen would stay blank while the pc was running. I had to unplug the power chord to get the monitor to turn on. Finally I was able to install W7 on the SSd but after a few seconds of hitting the desktop screen the pc just rebooted and the screen again stayed blank while the fans were running.

I decided to try and load windows on one of my hitachi drives to see if it works, but again on the first reboot my monitor does not respond, I will have to unplug to get it to work again.

I have took out the ram sticks and only left one in, I ran memtest on that stick 2 passes for about 40minutes and it had no issues. I am not sure what else to do.

I have also reset the CSMOS through the pins, didnt work

    Welcome to MG's Bryan,

7+ passes per stick in slot 1, if all pass, test a good stick in slot 2, 3, then 4 - each for 7+ is best.

Is the GS one of the better Corsair PSU ranges?

The gs is just corsairs gaming series gpu's it was up for a decent price with good reviews so i picked it up about 8 months ago when my old psu died.

i was able to install an overlap of w7 on one of my hitachi drives and i thought it was going well until the screen froze and the pc rebooted. After the reboot my screen again was blank while the fans were running.

I guess I can do 7+ passes on memtest just to be sure, but I'm not really sure thats the issue, but I will definitely end up doing that as my process of elimination.

someone suggested to try and load up ubunto and if it ran fine that cancelled out that it was a hardware issue.

But regardless I will be trying everything that people suggest, and thank you for replying

Cut down the hardware attached to the PSU as much as you can during testing, 1 HDD, no CD/DVD if you can boot from USB, etc. a HDD/OD might draw 10W+ each under load, it doesn't sound a lot but if the PSU has a problem on one rail ...

I've been running ubunto for like 15 minutes fine no freezes yet, not sure what this proves.

I still need to get my W7 working, I will keep ubunto running a bit longer to see if it keeps running smoothly

Posting as much info as I can to get this sorted

    CPU Temperature 35c
    MB Temp 37c

    CPU Voltage 1.144V
    3.3V Volate 3.328V
    5V Voltage 5.094V
    12V Voltage 12.137V

    (from the bios)

Did 10 passes the the 1 stick on one of the slots, will check it on the other slots to rule out ram as the issue

The problem is no longer Windows failed to start, just clarifying for people just jumping in to the thread the 2 issues I need to figure out are:

    1. On all reboots my monitor does not work while the fans are running, and I have to unplug the power chord press the power button for 5 seconds and plug it back in for the monitor to finally respond. When the monitor does respond I can hear a change in the fans, it sounds a bit lower is the only way i can describe it.

    2. The few times i have even tried to load up windows it freezes shortly after i reach the desktop anywhere from seconds to 3minutes in. On my SSD it was seconds and on my Hitachi drive I think the longest time I was able to be on the desktop was 4minutes then it froze and immediately after the freeze the PC rebooted itself, and on the reboot my monitor again was not working.

Hmm, sounding like a power/GPU problem, is there a second GPU power plug from the PSU you can use?

The fan speed noise difference is either GPU, PSU or CPU; usually the most obviously different-sounding one is the GPU; until Windows drivers kick in a few seconds or so after the BIOS hands over to the disk-driven boot process and the Windows drivers load (splash sceen>), the GPU fan is normally running at 100% (but this can vary according to the settings in firmware).

Is this startup problem consistent with cold boots and from a forced reboot (Ctrl+Alt+Del between BIOS and Splash screen)?

Yeah I usually keep my gpu fan speed at 100%

The psu is non modular so I'm not sure the cable is the issue, although I will check behind the case and see if I hid 2 extra 6 pin connectors.

Like I said the PSU is fairly new only about 8 months, but I don't want to go out buying hardware unless pretty sure that's the issue.

I did ram test on all the ram slotsw 7+ passes and no errors came out.

I have 3 hard drives and I have the same issue on 2 of the 3 have not tried the 3rd

The only thing I am not sure about is the motherboard or the gpu, but idk if a faulty gpu can cause this error.

I usually keep my gpu fan at 100%

It's a non modular psu so i don't think the cable is bad, but I will check the cables i tucked behind the case to see if there are two other 6 pins I can try out.

I don't want to go out and buy hardware until I am as close to positive that piece is the issue.

I have done 7+ passes on all the ram slots so I am positive the ram was not the issue.

Not sure how to check if the Motherboard is going faulty, or if the gpu is the issue. But again I am open to try anything.

the start up problem with the monitor only happens with reboots, if i let the pc sit for a while before trying to turn it back on then it does not happen usually. But if it reboots it is almost always happens.

During reboots I have to like I said unplug the chord and wait a bit so the monitor can respond.

Yeah I keep my gpu fan speed at 100% usually

It is a non modular psu so i dont think the cable is the issue, but i can check the cables i tucked in behind to case to see if i have 2 other 6 pin connectors for the gpu.

I think it's a hardware issue, but I don't want to buy anything before I am close to positive it is the problem. I am not sure how to test if my motherboard has gone bad, and like i said the psu is pretty new

I am able to boot up into safe mode, not sure what to test for though
