Windows 7 freezing

Hi there,

I am having constant problems with my computer freezing even though itis fairly new and I have recently installed an extra 4 meg of RAM.

I have been working with Chazlang over in Malware removal and he has suggested it may be software problem as all the problems i have in that area have all been cleared.

I have tried running in safe mode, and it is going fine. I ahve now used Msconfig to limit the number of startup programs and am working through them one by one.

I have also included a Belarc advisor printout to see if you guys may be able to identify problem programs more easily than I can.

Hi,

I think doing a chkdisk might rule out a simple HDD or corrupted file problem.

Open Computer and right-click the C: drive. Click the Tools tab and then under Error Checking hit the Check Now button. Tick both boxes and hit Start button. It will schedule for next reboot. The check takes about 10-20 minutes so reboot when you have time to wait before getting back into Windows.

If you still have freezing then you might want to test your HDD for mechanical problems. It appears to be a Seagate drive so you would get the Seatools diagnostic program and run both the short and long test on the drive to see if it finds no problems. http://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/seagate_seatools_for_windows.html

If those tests pass then if this is a desktop you might want to check your SATA cable to see if it could be faulty. If both the HDD and CDROM are SATA devices you could switch/swap their cables between them and see if the HDD works better or the same using the other cable.
