Some of you might have heard about Windows 7 so called “God Mode”. DLB mentioned this on the forums but I wanted to sticky and add a screenshot. Some of it is geared towards advanced users, but much of it is self-explanatory. This can allow you to tweak your program without adding any third party programs and opens up a lot of hidden features.
To access "God Mode" simply go to anywhere on your drive (I used Windows Explorer, My Computer and right clicked on my main drive) right click and select “New Folder” and name that folder:

    GodMode.{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C}

Now the folder will turn into a control panel looking icon but you can always find it later by right clicking in most places like Windows Explorer or your desktop.

Thanks MA for mentioning "God Mode". Originally I added this to my W7 laptop some time ago. It was mentioned in PC Utilities monthly UK magazine #127, about 12 months ago. They mentioned to install via Control Panel and I did so.

    FWIW, it doesn't have to named "God Mode" but whatever it is named it MUST be followed by {ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C}

Some other info for those interested in exploring further. ;)
I'd like to know how I could get back my original Control Panel settings(Windows 7 Ultimate) and then re-install "God Mode" as you have suggested in the right-click menu context.

    Have fun y'all. :-D

A warning to 64 Bit Windows OS users.

This warning may, or may not, still apply.

Apparently your Right Click Enabler can enable God Mode as well.

I looked at your screen shot and it just looks like it's everything that's available to most users, just in one spot. Am I correct in that assumption or is there some stuff that's not normally available?

1: Bigbazza, thanks for the extra info. I left Vista out for 2 reasons. 1; it sucks. 2; its believed that it works on 32 bit only. IMHO it is best used for Windows 7.

2: Cabbiinc: You are correct. Actually, that was what reminded me about God Mode, I had forgotten about it so this thread serves just sit here, be Googled for others to find. Thank you as well.

Yeah - I originally posted this back in early 2010 (link: http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=207394; and especially post #13 ). I ran across the info whilst fartin' around the interweb, and thought it was a good tip to share. It's nice to have everything in one place, easy to access right from the desktop. I'm not sure if it was mentioned above, but you can name the folder anything you want, it does not have to be "God Mode", and it works fine with 64bit Win7 also....

(thanks for creating a sticky, and thanks for the credit in post #1! :dood )

I just realized that I do NOT have God Mode in my right click menus - I can right click anywhere and anything, and it's simply not there.... weird, no? :confused

For Windows XP users there is the portable "Windows in a Box" which lists items similar to God Mode.
The author "Big Daddy Design" has gone but you can still view screenshots and download @

Near the bottom of that page you will see a link to "Windows 7 in a Box – Desktop Companion"
I haven't tried this but some major geek might have already or want to give it a test run

    Re: Windows XP "God Mode"

Many thanks MadMal for "God Mode" for XP, otherwise known as "Windows in a Box"

Although I haven't tried it in XP, as I no longer have an XP machine, I really wish that I had known about when I was using XP. :cool

All XP users should probably give it a try, IMHO.

@ MadMal: I checked out the Win7 version of "...in a box" and it's pretty freekin' cool! It doesn't really break down walls or re-define functionality, but it simply puts a lot of stuff in one easy to access spot. I haven't compared its functionality and features/options to those in "God Mode", but it looks about the same. Nice find though, and the site linked to above has A LOT of interesting portable apps....

    Hey,
Just read down through this and Bazza the Windows in a box for XP is awesome!!!
Just wondered where I could get the one for Vista(please don't question my sanity for putting Vista on a rig)?

You will need to use the program Right Click Enabler and when you do the setup for that program it allows you to add that to your right clicks.

    Re: Windows Vista "God Mode"

    Vista 32 or 64 bit?

    I haven't tried this one.
    BUT
Some users report they have no problems with 64 bit.
If you have 64 bit it's up to you if you want to try it but backup first is my advice.

Hi Spock96, I'm glad you liked "Windows in a Box" in XP.
MadMal should get the credit, ;) though.

For Vista, you can still use "God Mode" for 32 bit Vista, at least.
dlb apparently tried "Windows in a Box" in Vista (see post #10), but I hope he comments further, on reading this post.
Various people have had problems with 64 bit versions, some had no problem at all. I'd make sure that you make a copy of explorer.exe before you try "God Mode" on 64 bit OS'es, though, just in case.

Re-read , and visit, the links in earlier posts, particularly some of the links I posted in my long reply to MA. ;)

:-o My apologies Bazza, you had already mentioned the Vista "God Mode Creator" and the 64 bit caution.
So much info, so little brain space :confused but that's no excuse, I should have reread the thread before posting (I knew I had seen it somewhere)

funny thing, I created this folder back when dlb mentioned it last year. Havent used it since. :confused

I still like to know where to locate things on my own just in case someone asks me. Also, the search function in win 7 i so good, i forget about using god mode.

Thanks everyone for the rundown:grouphug- Really interesting:clap
I thought I would download and try Windows in a box, on one of my XP partitions,
I have just had a quick flick through the windows in a box for XP.
It looks a great time saver, I tried quite a few clicks, and all worked well, so I will keep it on. I do like shortcuts, being a rather lazy geek.:zzz
I will get around to trying the God=mode in one my Windows 7 partitions, soon. The extra links igbazza, ,I will probably try them all, but I will decide , first which partition that I want to wreck:-D

Why the hell would you need Godmode in windows 7? What a bunch of goofs! I can understand consistently tweaking, I do it myself, but, come on, there has to be a limit. Be happy with the most stable, reliable Windows ever...and pray that Windows 8 won't thrash our systems!

I've loved the 'godmode' since I first heard/seen of it, though one must know where they want to go first. Perhaps better suited to more advanced folks. Still, I find it easier to use than going through the myriad of menus. If you're wrong then you'll know right away.;)
