Windows 7 How did I do this??

Im a old Xp user. Never used vista. I shut down my computer last nite, When I turned it on today, The desktop show it was locked, I unlocked it no problem. I kinda liked that. Don't know how I did it though? Hope you can help. Using windows 7 Ultimate.

 

One of two (or more) things pop up in my brain......

Sleep mode/hibernation, screen saver, or perhaps power save mode. Not at a terminal with windows 7 at the moment.

 

I would really appreciate it when you have the time to tell me how I did it. It was cool, think I would like to use that feature more often. Thank you.

 

It is a default setting:

Control Panel/All control panel items/power options/edit plan settings

turn off the display 10 mins
Put the computer to sleep 30 mins
advanced settings show:
Require a password on wakeup:
yes

this is default

 

I believe the default option for the start menu button is sleep as well (not too sure). This can be changed in Control panel --> power options --> change plan settings --> change advanced power settings --> and in the new window press "change plan settings that are currently unavailable". Then have a hunt through the options and set everything up how you like it.

 

you can also lock the pc manually by hitting the Windows key + L (that's press and hold the windows key and then press the L key).

 

Default is shutdown. At least on win7 ultimate.

 

Also, Vista, and XP.
