I got a new notebook and am installing windows 7. It has a 500 GB hard drive. During the instalation process I am at the point of choosing the C and D drive sizes. The default is C at 224 GB with 18 GB used and D at 224 GB. Should I use the default or change them .
Sort of a rookie when it comes to installing O.S., first time with Windows 7
    Thanks

    Greetings, mgbdoc.

There is nothing wrong with leaving the partitions the way they are: half-and-half seems to be the norm these days with OEM machines.
The root drive should, of course, have enough space reserved for the operating system and installed programs - Microsoft recommends at least 20gb for a Win 7 64-bit installation.
If you do decide to change things later, there are several good free partitioning programs available, so there should be no problem resizing if you so desire.
