You'll like it Laura. Of course things get changed around and may take more clicks to do the same thing, but overall it's what Vista could have been IMO. :)

Yep. Thinking I'll like it. Afterall, it's new. I've been using XP for far too long. :-D

Hehehe, I called XP cartoony when I switched to Vista, and believe it or not, I'm running XP again but with all the bells and whistles turned off on my second rig. I want it for legacy games that don't like Vista/W7 as they need a DOS emulator like 'droptodos' which doesn't fly with the new OSs. I have W7 on my main rig so I'm not missing out.:)

Cool. I bought my wife her laptop this July and it came with the free upgrade to win 7. Just waiting for the e-mail from Dell.

The Family Pack is now available, only checked Amazon $149 for x3 licences, compaired to $119 for 1, so not a bad deal if your wanting to upgrade a few home PCs.

Thanks D. I'm keeping Vista on the desktop. This laptop is going I don't know where (XP) and the new one will have W7 installed already.

Thats a good choice in keeping one PC with older OS on, always one of those just in case things. Windows 7 seems to be getting a good responce in the UK so far http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/8319083.stm been a few articles from so called tech reporters one who initially blasted the install when it hung half way through only found out later on it was operator error in tweaking which caused the hang, after that all went as planned.

Just got back from from the store and bought the Windows 7 Family Pack. I get to install tonight ;)

IMO, this is probably one of the best deals MS has done in a long, long time. I can't believe that you can get three licenses for the software that cheap. Before you had to purchase the software and then purchase the licenses but it wasn't that cheap. Well, I don't think it was rolleyes

According to the Dell account, they estimate shipment on Oct. 30 (which is today, but it has not shipped yet).

I expedited the process and went to the Dell site and ordered it. All free. https://win7.dell.com/

    Ordered: 10/24/2009
    Status: Shipped

It was showing as not shipped yesterday with a estimated ship date of 10/31. Must have went out today.

That's where I went as well. All mine shows is that it is estimated to ship 10/30, not yet shipped or a carrier yet :cry

I got the final aWin7 and it acts the same as the beta; it is going back if I can return it.

is there really anything there you want to trade $100 and a slower PC for?
XP Pro gives me 5 - 7 more FPS in WoW and 7 - 10 more FPS in Counterstrike.
I am using a legal serial# with Tiny XP. I was hoping Win7 would have comparable features and speed. Unfortunately Win7 does a ton more of what I don't want and gives me little choice about it. Too bad Win7 misses as an OS. Win7 is good entertainment, but I have programs for that, my OS just needs speed and in that race XP wins.

It's free, and I don't HAVE to install it. I haven't played around with 7 yet, but I hear it is better than vista. I do prefer XP over vista, but this is for my Wife's computer (bought a new Dell this last July), and did come with the free upgrade option to 7, so i am taking Dell up on the offer ;)
Other than that, until more people chime in about 7 and maybe microsoft does something about the fact that to upgrade to 7 from XP you have to basically wipe the drive and clean install then use their XP mode "emulator", I myself will stick to XP.

Free Win 7 > Vista for sure!

As for the full wipe install - some of the reasoning by MS is no doubt to get as much XP off the market as possible. Once you have wiped and installed Win7 you will think more about fixing / living with problems than going back to XP.

My advice: Ghost the drive so you can return to XP easily. You may fall in love with Win7, or you may hate it. Most likely it will be a little of both.

    I agree 100%.

Ghosting is a great idea, but the Win 7 will be for my Wife's laptop, which is Vista now ;)
If I like 7, I would have to buy it most likely put it on a spare hard drive and then either dual boot or flop hard drives so as to not lose XP at all. :)

I purchased my laptop a month before Toshiba is offering a free upgrade to Win7! How bloody rude!!

So, if it ain't free, then I will live with Vista. Which at this point, having all the updates, is very stable.

IMO, Vista was a good OS for home purposes and for the normal everyday computer user that didn't know what was good or bad for their computer. However, Windows 7 has come a LONG way since Vista and it does have it's quirks but I am really liking this new OS. Have it installed on 4 of my home computers and my children have already noticed that their computers are running better with Windows 7 than it was with Windows XP.

Ok, the one that said that we had to double his memory (1.5 GB now from 768 mb). He doesn't know any better since he is the smartest when it comes to computers. :D

I'm now seeing an estimated ship date of 11/15. Dell apparently didn't order enough to go around. :confused
A co-worker ordered the ultimate version and after a week or so, Dell cancelled his order because it was out of stock. He was/is quite ticked off that they just cancelled it vs. back-ordering it for him. Dell's not winning the popularity contest around here.

Admittedly i did not order an OEM version but i was able to pick up my Ultimate X 64 on the 24th October from my supplier.

So much for the "new and improved" O.S.

Looks like my Wife's has shipped, and it's sitting in Ohio UPS as of 11/04

I read about the endless boot loop since Oct. 23rd and I'm waiting for any sort of fix.
I have a friend who wants me to talk him through the upgrade from Vista to win 7 over the phone!
I flat out said, "it won't happen for at least a month". There are problems with no solutions. I'm thinking if everything goes wrong, he will not have a computer.
