    Using Win7 Home Premium on 2 Dell"s (XPS8300, XPS400).

I setup a hardwired network Homegroup. The XPS8300 is the primary. Both computers see each other.

Both have file sharing on, Discovery on, password protection OFF.

When I try to access a folder (shared) on the Primary from the XPS400 a window pops up wanting a User Name and a Password. I know what the password is but have no idea what User Name is is being asked for.

A search for help on User Name I find nothing of use.

    Any help is appreciated!

Username is the name of the account you logged into on that computer.

Thank You! I will try that.

If this is a simple network of two computers attached to a router there is no 'primary' btw. Both computers have the same standing - it's only you that thinks of one of them as the primary.

When I've had this sort of problem in the past I've found it works better when password protection is enabled.
