    Hi,

I have a Windows 7 laptop, which up until a few days ago was working fine. It is not my laptop.

Now, there is no internet connectivity over any interface. I have tried WLAN, Ethernet, Mac OS X internet sharing over Ethernet.

The repeated error message I am seeing is:
The DNS Server is not responding

I have tried several different ways to diagnose this problem, including flushing the DNS caches, ARP caches, and varying the IP addresses and DNS servers. I use OpenDNS to provide name resolution.

Having read a few forums, noting that there is a Windows 7 problem with Winsock. So after issuing these commands:
    netsh winsock reset catalog
netsh int ip reset reset.log hit

I get the following error message:

The following helper DLL could not be loaded: WSHELPER.DLL

Yet, that file is present in System32, System64 and SysWOW64.

I have tried several ways to register the DLL, with no success including:
    regsvr32 wshelper.dll
    netsh add helper wshelper.dll

Please can you offer me some advice?

    Thank you

    Joe.

Highlighted in red is not a legit folder. Most likely the laptop is infected with a ZeroAccess rootkit.
