well in my opinion vista has no up side to it besides looking realy nice where as windows 7 is briliant but beware anything under one gig ram will leave you in the dark, so if you have more than 1 gig ram yes 7 if not XP skip vista but that is my opinion.

Personally, Having used Windows 7 since it's beta release, I would recommend the upgrade as it is the "stable Vista" so to speak. It is easy to use, rarely crashes, and uses less resources than Vista.

What Problems are you facing with Vista?

But If you've made up you're mind about leaving Vista, definitely the OS to pick would be Win7 and not XP.

    I'm running Win7 on a 5yr old Lenovo LT, with a P1.6GHz proccy ,1.25 GB
RAM, and a 40GB IDE HD spinning at 4200RPM :-D

It clean installs 7RC in 25mins :drool XP - never managed inside of 45mins IIRCC.

    Cheers..

PS - I've managed to squeeze in Ubuntu 9.10 in Dual boot with 7RC. Both feel a lot quicker than XP.

If you have a burning hole in your pocket and want to spend some money on Windows 7, then go ahead. However, IMO, Vista will work just fine for home use.

There are benefits for upgrading but I don't see any benefit that would truly warrant the upgrade unless you want to.

    Good luck

p.s. I did upgrade the computers in my house to Windows 7. I was running Windows XP on 5 machines and two computers were 5+ years old.

If you have the free Vista upgrade then go for it as W7 is better but paying for it is another story.

I enjoy using Vista and Windows 7 but if i had to choose i would go with 7, it just feels better and smoother.

Possibly Vista SP2 just 'likes' my hardware, but although I've got W7 available I really can't find any advantage over Vista in use. My 2½ year old Vista installation boots really fast and never, ever hangs or crashes, so for me there would be no point at all paying to upgrade to W7, nice as it is.

If I was still running XP though then I would definitely upgrade.

Honestly, there is no reason to move to Windows 7 if Windows Vista is fine for you.

    Hi

I would echo all the comments mentioned above as while I migrate to the newer OSes all the time, I have had no issues at all with Vista since using in from the early beta (ok a few interim builds where bad but public didnt get to see many of them) until Windows 7 was released to RTM.

Kinda got better from SP1 onwards, similar to Windows XP, Windows 7 is pretty polished in its RTM form already.
