I get prompted to install IE 11 on my Dell N5050 laptop running Windows 7 premium. Has anyone heard good things with this Win7/IE 11 combination? I remember there were some kinks being worked out on IE 10, but wondering on the new version of IE.

Note: Don't recommend another browser, this is a family computer. :)

    Thanks.

I actually like it a lot. It seems to be much faster than the previous one I used. Of course it is still new so the jury is out on how good/bad it really is. But so far so good; I hear good things.

From what I have read in several computer-related forums about IE 11 thus far; there are a ton of bug fixes and upgraded compatibility and the new version promises faster rendering. It also offers improved support for existing standards as well as relatively new ones, such as WebGL which is primarily used for online gaming. IE 11 also supports this so-called WebGL for delivering improved 3D graphics over the Internet. For those who have not checked it out yet Internet Explorer 11 should be in your Windows automatic updates.

Installation: One thing I would advise would be to NOT interfere with the update/upgrade process once it begin because it can actually take a few minutes to complete as it is about 70MB. Unlike the numerous other browsers, the IE upgrade does involve a reboot, since it's kindred to a system update. But when you first run IE11, you can simply start browsing; it doesn't push you to sign into an online account the way Chrome does. The one thing you do have to do is choose whether to use SmartScreen protection and send Do Not Track messages to sites. This is far better than it was in previous IE versions; most people didn't bother running the intial settings wizard, so it would pop up every-single-time the browser opened which obviously became quite annoying.

Positives: When you start browsing around while using Internet Explorer 11, JavaScript seems to run WAY faster than in Chrome, at least in my opinion. It has improved support for the HTML 5 features like drag and drop that will allow cloud-based tools like Microsoft’s SkyDrive and Office Web Apps to work more intuitively. This is a big plus for me because I use SkyDrive a lot. Negatives: About the only major hindrances thus far (in my opinion) are that it doesn't run on OS versions earlier than Windows 7 and doesn't offer syncing for Win 7.

My experience with installing IE11. I did install IE11 on my Win 7 PC and discovered that Youtube pages freeze/hang. There are plenty of websites that mention this. Here is just one of them: http://www.infoworld.com/t/microsof...media-hanging-youtube-more-major-sites-231544 Apparently there is no fix (yet) by Microsoft.

I uninstalled IE11, which took me back to IE10, did a manual Windows Update and did hide the IE11 update until a fix will be provided by MS.

Firefox is my default browser anyway and seldom use IE10 but want IE browser(s) to work flawlessly anyway so you may want to wait until MS fixes IE11 if you use YouTube frequently.

    Hi oma,

I have seen this problem with Internet Explorer 11 in a few computer software related forums.

I also noticed that some people were able to fix it by opening IE and then going to the Menu Bar => Tools => Active X Filtering (click on to disable/enable) and then try YouTube again.

For several people that did the trick. ;)

Hi compuable. Since I read some of the *fixes* (after I uninstalled IE11) that were suggested, it seems to work for some and not for all. Therefore I will wait until Microsoft get their act together and provide a fix that will work for everybody. It has been suggested by some people also to enable activeX and I won't do that for obvious reasons. Thanks anyway! I only use IE browser weekly to browse a little in order to have some addons automatically updated.

    Hi oma,

The best, most succinct and full explanation I have seen thus far regarding the Internet Explorer + YouTube problem that you mentioned earlier can be found at the following website:

Site URL from InfoWorld.com: IE11 leaves Flash media hanging on YouTube, more major sites

It really gets into the specific "ins and outs" of the particular problems involved as well as offering several relevant links to possible explanations and potential fixes for it.

Side Notes: I hope this information is useful for anyone who either is thinking about upgrading to IE 11 as well as anyone who might be currently experiencing any problems with using it. Also, for the record I forgot to mention that one of my desktops has both Windows 7 pro and Internet Explorer 11 installed and I have had zero problems regarding YouTube.

Thanks, all. Looks like I'll wait and keep on using IE 9.

Well, I didn't realize IE 11 was installed within the past week. Thought the look would be different from IE 9, but nope. Looked at some YouTube videos, made sure latest flash player was installed, and everything looks fine. Will let y'all know how things are going.

IE11 is faster then IE9 and is a lot more smoother. I really like it
