Windows 7 Problem with shutting down the PC.

I am having problems shutting down my PC with Windows 7 64 Ultimate.

Here is a screen pic of what i have running before i try to shut down the PC. I have shut down Commodo Firewall.

NOTE: Ignore the stuff with lines through them. They were the ones running at the time i took the screen grab.

Here is the screen from Process Explorer:

Can you be a little bit more specific what problem you have when trying to shut down Windows?

A box comes up saying something like waiting for background programs to close with two buttons below that say force shut down or cancel.

Commodo is just the Firewall not the Internet Security one. Ad Aware is Anti Virus you cant get it for just anti spyware anymore. Its set up as a second line of defence.

Bit Defender is my main Antivirus Program. I thought it might be the Firewall that was causing the shut down problem. This is why i was shutting it down before i shut down the PC. But this makes no difference.

Sometimes I get the same message. It's gone after about 2 seconds.

However, your's could be due to the 2 Antivirus programs. They are conflicting when you are trying to shut down. You have to get rid of 1, or live with the message and wait for the PC to shut down.

I would keep BitDefender. If you want a second line of defence, buy the Premium Edition of Malwarebytes Anti-Malware. The free version doesn't offer realtime protection.

    Hi

Generally Windows 7 will if that "waiting for background applications to close....." comes up tell you what app is slow shutting down. I get this is work a fair bit generally its MS Lync for me as its connected to works network still.

What I would do is to do and its the main thing that jumps out to be without going all safe boot and testing a variety of startup permutations is to not have any 3rd party apps running (don't even open a webpage as add-ons may be a cause) just boot your PC and then after 5mins take a screenshot (yes will have to paste into paint and save, but just this app) like above and attach, then shutdown, is it still hanging?

If it is and Ad-aware was running in process explorer, then end task that as well as adtrustmedia, then shutdown again, does it hang?

My husband's Acer netbook gets that regularly while my Acer netbook never does. (We have different models). Nothing is ever stated as to what needs to be closed to shutdown. (When doing Windows updates then Windows update will be mentioned as needing to close).
His is an AMD chip with AMD Radeon HD graphics. Mine is Intel with Intel HD graphics. I "feel" that this slow shutdown is caused by video software running. I don't have any proof. He knows he needs to wait until it is ready to shut down.

Sorry i was so long in posting back about this. I have disabled all my startup options except for my Firewall and Anti Virus. I use Driver Booster to update my Drivers and they are all up to date according to it.

The problem seems to have stopped now?

A link to another thread on the OPs BSOD that is likely linked so some more info HERE in the other thread that maybe pertinent to this current issue.

Not always a good idea as driver finder applications dont always find the perfect driver that is for your system hardware they may find unified ones that work but can give errors.

Do install chipset driver from your motherboard makers site HERE and reboot and then install the AMD Radeon HD7700 driver direct from AMD drivers HERE
