My windows 7 was installed on the computer I am having problems with about five months ago. It ran fine for the first month and a half with no problems, but then a file in my World of Warcraft folder got corrupted. I tried installing the program and re installing it, but it says I need to be a system administrator to be able to install a program. I reformated my computer after that and reinstalled everything, and the computer worked just fine for about three weeks after that. The first new problem it had was the computer would run like it does initially when it boots and the fans are running more than they usually do when it first boots. The fans never slowed down, and the computer never booted the operating system or even bios for that matter. It only happens sometimes though. I just have to hard reboot my computer a few times and then it works. Now my files corrupt randomly every couple of days or so and windows encounters system errors and consistently has to repair its self. I tried a new hard drive to see if that would fix the problem, but it didnt even dent the issue and everything kept going the way it had been after the OS was installed. Windows also performs a random memory dump which I have never had a problem with since i purchased this computer "06" and it had XP on it. I then thought it might be the ram so i replaced both of those sticks and that didn't really fix the problem either. If you have any suggestions or possibilitys you think it might be im interested in hearing them. I have no idea what to do with it now :confused

Hi and Welcome to Majorgeeks :).

I'd suspect a faulty power supply unit or motherboard.

Do you have a friend or neighbour that you could borrow a PSU from?

Probably, but how is the psu effecting my computers ability to roll over and boot the bios/ os. Would that be part of the files corrupting as well?

If the PSU was faulty, varying outputs could easily inhibit boot-up and also corrupt files - the hard drive where Windows (and your) files are stored, is powered by it so any problems with it's supply could cause damage.

So how much do psu usually cost? I think mine is a 750
